Oak Bark

Very high content of tannins in the oak bark forms a natural protection of the plant from parasites and animals who gnaw the bark as the taste of tannins is quite astringent. In folk medicine, tannins have been used for centuries for their astringent effect on the skin and mucosa (and/or small superfi cial blood vessels) in, for example, haemorrhoids, superfi cial abrasions, or mild burns.
